The UN have now approved the resolution granting a land right in favour of the new Cité de la Musique in Geneva. In a press release Fondation pour la Cité de la Musique de Genève (FCMG) said that they obtained a right to use three plots of land next to the Place des Nations for 90 years.
The building is to be inaugurated at the end of 2022, after three years of work. It will host the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, which will have a concert hall with 1,700 seats, and the Academy of Music. Eighteen architects have been invited to participate in the international competition. As far as financing is concerned, 85% of the project, estimated at 270 million Swiss Francs, is already assured, but the search for patrons continues. The funding will be entirely private.
