Nikolaj Znaider, Jury President of the Carl Nielsen competition, has publicly disagreed with the result of the semi-finals. The three finalists were not his choice, yet at the end he had to bow to the majority view, announcing Luke Hsu (25) from the USA, Ji Yoon Lee (23) from South Korea and Liya Petrova (25) from Bulgaria. To a journalist of the Danish Radio he said: “There was a clear majority in favour of the three contestants who have ended up in the finals. It’s just not a verdict I can concur with.” Poor finalists, being disavowed like this, is not the best starting condition for the final competition.
