The visitors of the Arena di Verona might soon be protected from rain. The city has announced the winners of a contest for the creating of a huge coverage to be built. A group of German companies has won the competition with a project that will cost €13.5 million. The five parameters used to evaluate the proposals were: quality and consistency of the architectural solution, as well as functional and environmental aspects. The German project consists of a sort of sailcloth which is to cover the huge arena in case of rain and is entirely removable. The project which need the approval from the Italian Ministry of Culture could be realized within three years, officials said yesterday.
