Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki (* 1969), a specialist in contemporary music, has been nominated Music Director of the Helsinki Philharmonic with a contract starting in fall 2016 until 2019. The nomination is subject to the final approval of the Helsinki City Council. She will be the successor to John Storgards.
Mälkki became was Music Director of the Ensemble InterContemporain in Paris from 2006 until 2013. In May 2013, she was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra, with an initial contract of 3 years, effective July 2013.
