After evaluating 241 applications, 116 pianists have been admitted to the preselection phase of the 19th Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, which will take place from July 25 to August, 2018.
The Preselection Jury will travel to Paris, New York and Madrid to attend the recitals of each of the 116 candidates and to choose among them those 20 who will be going to the Santander Competition this summer.
The average age of the pianists is 25, being 90 of them male and 26 female. The list of nationalities includes 36 countries, with a majority of Europeans (56), over the Asians (46) and Americans (14). The institutions where these young talents study are mostly located in the US (22), Germany (22) and the UK (15).
