The XVIII Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, which runs from July 25 – August 5 2015 inclusive, has been launched with great expectations. The registration period has just closed and 203 applications from 36 countries have been received. Applications are spread evenly between Europe, Asia, North America and Spain. Their ages range between 16 and 30.
The Admission process commences now. After the candidates’ applications have been carefully scrutinized, the names of the successful pianists will be announced in February and they will take part in the Pre-selection Stage which takes place in March and April 2015 in Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris. The Pre-selection Stage consists of performances which are open to the general public. In April, the Pre-selection Jury will announce the names of the 20 successful contestants who will then convene in July 2015 at the Palacio de Festivales in Santander in Northern Spain.
The Competition takes place during the months of July and August 2015. The jury will be headed by pianist and professor Gary Graffman. Jury members will be Jian Li, Tomás Marco, Luis Pereira Leal, Michel Béroff, Péter Csaba, Christopher Elton, Homero Francesch, Márta Gulyás, Klaus Hellwig, Eldar Nebolsin and Blanca Uribe.
