The number of applicants for the Bartok Composition Competition has exceeded expectations, the organizer says. 214 young composers from 53 countries have submitted their piano compositions for next year’s Bartok World Competition’s Piano Round.
Besides the 25 Hungarian applicants, most candidates are from Italy, the US, South Korea, but there are also Uzbek, Mexican and Iranian composers among the applicants. Faculty members of the Budapest based Liszt Academy will evaluate the applications and select the compositions to be viewed by the international jury with members Thomas Adès, Chaya Czernowin Unsuk Chin and Andrey Korobeynikov.
