The 19th Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, which will take place between July 25 and August 5 next year, has kicked off with an outstanding number of applicants. After the registration process was closed, the competition has a final count of 241 applications from 44 different countries, mostly from Europe –with 116 inscriptions from different nationalities (Austria, Belarus, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Ukraine) − as well as Americans and Asians. Their ages range between 15 and 31, the majority being aged 24-29.
After an exhaustive analysis of the applications, those admitted will come forward in February and will participate in the Preselection phase, which will take place during March and April 2018 in Madrid, Moscow, New York and Paris through public auditions.
