71 candidates have been selected to participate in the first round of the 19th Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition, 49 women and 22 men, representing 20 different nationalities, the organizer announced today.
The best represented countries are Korea (16), Japan (15) and the United States of America (11), followed by China, France and Russia with each 6 candidates.
The other candidates originate from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Romania, the UK and Switzerland.
The 71 candidates come from an initial list of 172 applicants. The competition will take placed in Brussels from 29/04 until 25/05.
