Pax ist ein Album « bei dem sich Musik, Texte und der sakrale Raum der Kathedrale bei diesen Aufführungen neuer Werke norwegischer Komponisten, die sich alle mit ihren eigenen Überlegungen und Interpretationen dem Thema Frieden nähern, gegenseitig beleben. Das Programm beginnt mit einem bloß auf Effekte angelegten Stück, Pax von Martin Ødegaard, das auf mich alles andere als friedlich wirkt. Ich empfinde es eher als peinlich und störend. Das Chorwerk Speak LOUDER von Cecille Ore dreht sich um das Artensterben, gegen das der Mensch laut aussprechen muss. Es ist ein Stück, in dem der Inhalt zu einer stark sinnlich ausgeprägten modernen Chormusik geführt hat.
Eyolf Dales A Current Peace ist ein Pandemiewerk für Saxophonquartett, recht versöhnlich und melodisch im Klang, nachdenklich und suchend.
Stine Sorlies Pollination für vierstimmigen Chor und Solisten ist ebenfalls ein Umweltstück, das die Umweltverschmutzung anprangert. Das Werk macht in dieser Surround-Aufnahme Gebrauch von Klang und Raum, und symbolisiert mit Klangfetzen und viel Ruhe den Zerfall.
Zum Schluss erklingt Lux von Martin Ødegaard, das sich auf den Text des katholischen Requiems bezieht. Es ist ein musikalisch interessantes Stück, klanglich reizvoll und atmosphärisch dicht.
Fazit: Dies ist ein Album das musikalische nicht sehr ergiebig ist, klanglich aber vollauf überzeugt und vor allem die Stärken des Ensembles 96 zeigt.
Pax is an album « in which music, texts and the sacred space of the cathedral enliven each other in these performances of new works by Norwegian composers, each approaching the theme of peace with their own reflections and interpretations. The program begins with a purely effect piece, Pax by Martin Ødegaard, which strikes me as anything but peaceful. I find it rather embarrassing and disturbing. The choral work Speak LOUDER by Cecille Ore is about the extinction of species, against which humanity must speak out loudly. It is a piece in which the content has led to highly sensual modern choral music.
Eyolf Dale’s A Current Peace is a pandemic work for saxophone quartet, quite conciliatory and melodic in sound, thoughtful and searching.
Stine Sorlie’s Pollination for four-part choir and soloists is also an environmental piece, denouncing pollution. In this surround recording, the work makes use of sound and space, symbolizing decay with fragments of sound and a lot of near-silence.
Finally, we hear Lux by Martin Ødegaard, which refers to the text of the Catholic Requiem. It is a musically interesting piece, sonically appealing and atmospherically dense.
Conclusion: This is an album that is not very productive musically, but it is very convincing in terms of sound and above all it shows the strengths of Ensemble 96.
