Several major works of the symphonic repertoire, like Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition use a church bell to get a particular sound. The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra used to rent such an instrument when needed, but now it owns such a bell after having it made by a specialized manufacturer in the Netherlands,Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry in Asten. It will be first used for the Pictures at an Exhibition on December 13 and 15.
Decorated with the Luxembourgian coat of arms, the bell will take the name of its godmother Princess Alexandra
