Zwei Tage vor Weihnachten bietet der 300. Geburtstag von Carl Friedrich Abel Gelegenheit, an diesen mit einer Einspielung zu erinnern. Bereits heute erscheint die Aufnahme später Symphonien sowie einer Sinfonia Concertante des in Köthen geborenen Musikers, der viele Jahre mit Johann Christian Bach befreundet war. Zusammen betrieben sie erfolgreich in London ein Konzertunternehmen. Aus dieser Zeit stammen 46 Symphonien. Davon sind sechs Werke, Symphonien und eine Sinfonia Concertante, nur handschriftlich in der Königlichen Hofbibliothek Berlin überliefert.
Das Main-Barockorchester mit erfahrenden Musikern der historischen Praxis unter Martin Jopp legt vier dieser Sinfonien in Ersteinspielungen sowie die Sinfonia Concertante vor. Diese nahe am Stil der Mannheimer Schule komponierten Orchesterwerke fallen durch ihre farbige und ausdrucksvolle Harmonik auf, die sich vor allem in den langsamen Sätzen entfaltet. In Kopfsätzen ist eine Vorstufe der Sonatenhauptsatzform angelegt.
Das Main Barockorchester, vom Konzertmeister Martin Jopp geleitet, hat sich auf Musik des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts spezialisiert. Dementsprechend hat es eine überzeugende Art und Weise entwickelt, um den Atem dieser Musik fühlbar zu machen. Insbesondere in den langsamen Sätzen weiß es die reichhaltig gestaltete Musik zum Blühen zu bringen. Intensiv in der Durchdringung und doch auch leicht im Klang widmen sie sich diesen ausgeprägten Teilen. Doch auch in den schnellen Sätzen wissen sie die Eigenheiten der Werke zu heben und anschaulich zu gestalten.
Two days before Christmas, the 300th birthday of Carl Friedrich Abel offers an opportunity to commemorate him with a recording. The recording of later symphonies and a Sinfonia Concertante by the Köthen-born musician, who was a friend of Johann Christian Bach for many years, is already being released today. Together they successfully ran a concert business in London. There are 46 symphonies from this period. Of these, six works, symphonies and a Sinfonia Concertante, have survived only in manuscript in the Royal Court Library in Berlin.
The Main Baroque Orchestra with experienced musicians of historical practice under Martin Jopp presents four of these symphonies in premiere recordings as well as the Sinfonia Concertante. These orchestral works, composed close to the style of the Mannheim School, are notable for their colorful and expressive harmonies, which unfold especially in the slow movements. In first movements, a preliminary stage of the sonata form is laid out.
The Main Baroque Orchestra, led by concertmaster Martin Jopp, specializes in music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Accordingly, it has developed a convincing way to make the breath of this music palpable. Especially in the slow movements, it knows how to make the richly shaped music blossom. Intensive in penetration and yet also light in sound, they devote themselves to these distinct parts. But also in the fast movements they know how to bring out the peculiarities of the works and to make them vivid.
