Francisco Mignone (1897-1986) komponierte sein Gitarrenkonzert im Jahre 1975. Es hat zwei rhythmische und sehr fantasievoll komponierte und mit brasilianischen Elementen angereicherte Ecksätze, in denen andere Instrumente mit der Gitarre dialogieren, sowie ein zentrales Lento e molto romantico.
Das Klarinettenkonzert und das Fagottkonzert entstanden viel früher, 1957. Für beide inspirierte sich Mignone im Fundus der brasilianischen Volksmusik. Das Klarinettenkonzert hat einen berührend langsamen Satz, während das Fagottkonzert nur zwei schnelle Sätze zählt, die das Fagott als sehr geschwätziges Instrument präsentieren.
Das Violinkonzert von 1960 ist moderner, nicht mehr nationalistisch und insgesamt sehr anspruchsvoll, kantabel im Mittelsatz, energetisch und hoch virtuos in den Ecksätzen.
Die allesamt hervorragenden Interpretationen bringen sowohl die tänzerischen Rhythmen und die treibende Energie der Werke als auch die lyrischen Passagen intensiv und einfühlsam zur Geltung.
Mit zwei Weltersteinspielungen, die eine vom schillernden Gitarrenkonzert die andere vom Violinkonzert und zwei weiteren soliden Stücken ist dies definitiv ein hörenswertes Album.
Francisco Mignone (1897-1986) composed his Guitar Concerto in 1975. It has two rhythmically and imaginatively composed outer movements, enriched with Brazilian elements, in which other instruments dialogue with the guitar, and a central Lento e molto romantico.
The Clarinet Concerto and the Bassoon Concerto were composed much earlier, in 1957, and Mignone drew inspiration for both from Brazilian folk music. The Clarinet Concerto has a touchingly slow movement, while the Bassoon Concerto has only two fast movements, presenting the bassoon as a very talkative instrument.
The Violin Concerto of 1960 is more modern, less nationalistic, and overall very demanding, cantabile in the middle movement, energetic and highly virtuosic in the outer movements.
All of the outstanding interpretations bring out the dance-like rhythms and propulsive energy of the works, as well as the lyrical passages, with intensity and sensitivity.
With two world premiere recordings, one of the dazzling Guitar Concerto, the other of the Violin Concerto, and two other solid pieces, this is definitely an album worth listening to.
