After the flood disaster of early May, the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra is still not able to perform and has canceled the performances scheduled for June. Among the performances was Puccini’s opera La Bohème, which was to be staged at the end of the month at the Theatro São Pedro.
The orchestra’s management is waiting for access to the offices at the Fernando Ferrari Administrative Center (Caff), where the Ospa House is located.
Musicians from the orchestra have begun a series of performances in shelters in the metropolitan region of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. This is part of the Emergency Cultural Actions Network, an initiative of the State Secretariat for Culture that brings music, literature, cinema and visual arts to people displaced by the floods.
