The Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano has a new Principal Conductor: Alessandro Bonato will assume this post starting in October 2025, guiding the artistic development of the ensemble over the next three seasons.
Together with Music Director Ottavio Dantone and Guest Conductor Thomas Dausgaard, Bonato will be engaged in both symphonic concerts and opera productions, the Fondazione Haydn di Bolzano e Trento said.
Bonato gained the attention of the music world by winning the third prize at the Malko International Competition in Copenhagen at the age of 23.
Born in Verona in March 1995, he studied violin and later composition; from 2013 he took conducting lessons with Pier Carlo Orizio, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli and Donato Renzetti. In March 2016 Bonato made his debut as professional conductor at the Royal Opera House of Muscat with The Magic Flute.
