British conductor Alexander Shelley, 38, music director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, has extended his contract for four years, to Aug. 31, 2023. He succeeded Pinchas Zukerman in September 2015.
In support of Shelley’s renewed contract, the Ottawa based NAC announced Thursday a $1-million donation in support of Shelley’s work by long-time NAC Foundation donor Elinor Gill Ratcliffe.
Shelley is also principal associate conductor of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In August 2017 he concluded his tenure as Chief Conductor of the Nürnberger Symphoniker, a position he held since September 2009.
