The American conductor Daniel Lipton is dead. He died on February 18 at the age of 84 in the US state of Florida, as the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, where Lipton was General Music Director from 1992-1995, has now announced.
Born in Paris, Lipton grew up in New York and studied in Paris. After working in Denver, Florence, Houston and Zurich, he was chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Colombia in Colombia from 1975 to 1983, where he founded the Ballet National and the Opera de Colombia in Bogotà, of which he was artistic director and chief conductor. In 2012, he became chief conductor of the Tampa Opera, where he was later fired due to allegations of sexual assault.
