American soprano Arlene Saunders has died last Friday, 17 April, from an infection by Covid 19 at the age of 89. The Cleveland-born singer made a career in her country, as well as in the most important European opera houses.
She had a long and fruitful relationship with the Hamburg Opera. She retired from the stage in 1985 with Der Rosenkavalier at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
She can be heard and seen in video productions of Wagner’s Meistersinger and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro from the Hamburg Sate Opera.
