The musical An American in Paris will have its world premiere at Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet in December, a few months prior to New York where it will be staged at Broadway Palace Theater in spring 2015. Contrary to most cases, An American in Paris was not a Broadway show adapted into a movie but becomes now a movie adapted into a stage production. Ballet dancer and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph. Craig Lucas wrote the script, with music drawn from the Vincente Minnelli film score by George and Ira Gershwin. This score goes back to George Gershwin’s tone poem An American in Paris which, 20 years later, inspired the producer Arthur Freed to do the film which was rewarded six Oscars.
