Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons has received an extraordinary gift for his 75th birthday. A new tulip, created in Latvia and bred in Netherlands, was named after him, the Latvian Institute announced.
The idea to create a new tulip came from the Embassy of Latvia in Netherlands, highlighting the fact that Mariss Jansons, who was the chief conductor of The Royal Concertgebouw for 11 years, is, perhaps, the most well-known Latvian in Netherlands.
