Vasily Petrenko dirigiert Prokofievs Fünfte Symphonie recht farbig und effektvoll, er setzt auf klangliche Transparenz, kann aber letztlich die expressive Bandbreite der Symphonie nicht voll erfahrbar machen. Viel bleibt so an jener apokalyptischen Tiefe und Gewalt auf der Strecke, die Karajan so sehr herausstrich. Es fehlt dieser Interpretation deutlich an Atem und daher an bedeutsamer Rhetorik.

Dasselbe kann man in der 21. Symphonie von Myaskovsky feststellen, in der Svetlanov in achtzehneinhalb Minuten deutlich mehr sagt als Petrenko in knapp mehr als 15 Minuten.

Vasily Petrenko conducts Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony in a rather colourful and effective manner. He focuses on tonal transparency, but ultimately cannot make the symphony’s expressive range fully perceptible. Much of the apocalyptic depth and violence that Karajan so strongly emphasised is thus lost. This interpretation clearly lacks breath and therefore significant rhetoric.
The same can be observed in Myaskovsky’s 21st Symphony, in which Svetlanov says significantly more in eighteen and a half minutes than Petrenko does in just over 15.
