The pianist, chamber musician and conductor Andras Schiff will join the faculty of the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, which opened its doors in 2016. Schiff has a longstanding close cooperation with the Barenboim-Said projects. Already in 2008, he performed a piano recital at the Barenboim-Said Foundation in Ramallah. His lecture concerts at the Pierre Boulez Hall last year were enthusiastically received by students and audiences alike.
The Barenboim-Said Academy offers conservatory education for talented, young musicians from the Middle East and North Africa, uniting intensive music performance studies with a grounding in the humanities – all within the heart of historic Berlin. Its origin is the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded in 1999 by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said in Weimar.
