Andrey Boreyko has been named Artistic Director and Music Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, commencing from the 2019/20 season. Boreyko will succeed Jacek Kaspszyk, who served in the role since 2013. He also holds the position of Music Director of Artis-Naples in Florida.
Born in 1957 to a Polish father and a Russian mother, Boreyko spent his childhood in Poland. He moved to Leningrad to study conducting and, having returned to Poland in 1991, he served for four years as music director of the western Polish Poznan Symphony Orchestra.
From 2012 Andrey Boreyko was Music Director of the Orchestre National de Belgique, a post he held for five years. He has also held the positions of Chief Conductor of the Jenaer Philharmonie (of whom he is now Honorary Conductor), Hamburger Symphoniker, Winnipeg Symphony, Berner Sinfonieorchester as well as Music Director of the Düsseldorf Symphoniker (2009-2014).
