Russian pianist Andrey Gugnin is the winner of the 2016 Sydney International Competition of Australia. The Second Prinze also was taken by a Russian, Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev, while Third Prize was given to Moye Chen (China). 32 competitors participated in the competition.
Andrey Gugnin (*1987) graduated from the Moscow Conservatory studying under Prof. Vera Gornostayeva and pursued postgraduate studies with her. In 2013 he took second prize in the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna. In 2014 he was a gold medallist in the 16th Gina Bachauer Piano International Competition in Salt Lake City (USA) as well as winner of the audience favourite award.
