Nineteen years old Polish pianist Andrzej Wiercinski won the All-Poland Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw. The contest has been held since 1968 and launched the career of many internationally successful pianists, including Krystian Zimerman and Rafal Blechacz.
The winner and the runner-up qualify as Poland’s entrants in the subsequent International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, also held in Warsaw. As second place was tied this year between Lukasz Krupinski and Krzysztof Ksiazek, three Poles will take part in the forthcoming contest.
The pianist Andrzej Wierciński was born in 1995. He began his musical education at the age of six in Warsaw.
