Askonas Holt announced that Nicholas Carter, 30, has been appointed as the new chief conductor of Stadttheater Klagenfurt and the Kärntnersinfonieorchester, a position which he will take up in September 2018 for an initial three-year term. Carter moved from his native Australia to Hamburg in 2011, where he served as Kapellmeister to Simone Young at the Staatsoper Hamburg for a number of seasons, then moved to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he served Donald Runnicles in the same capacity for the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons and where he now guest conducts each season.
The conductor comments: “Klagenfurt am Wörthersee is a place that breathes music. Mahler, Brahms and Berg were all drawn to this magical part of the world and I and my family anticipate with great pleasure making our home there. »
This announcement coincides with the extension of his contract in Australia where he will now remain Principal Conductor of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra until at least the end of calendar year 2018.
