Malaysian-born Australian tenor Steve Davislim died in Vienna, where he lived. He was only 57 years old. He was of Chinese and Irish ancestry.

He worked as a horn player and then began vocal studies. He sang with the Victoria State Opera for three years.

After gaining an overseas study grant from the Australia Council, he undertook studies in Italy, Greece, Germany and Switzerland.

Davislim became a member of the Zurich Opera in 1994. He has also appeared at the Salzburg Festival, the Hamburg Opera, the Berlin Staatsoper, and in Vienna. He made his debut at the Chicago Lyric Opera in 2005.

He participated in recordings of Christian Thielemann, John Eliot Gardiner, Simone Young, Colin Davis and Charles Mackerras.
