Conductor Jean-Yves Ossocne, the former director of the Opera in Tours, France, has been charged with moral harassment, La Nouvelle République reports. Three choristers of the opera accuse the conductor of inappropriate comments, made as far back as 2005 and 2006. The procedure lasts for years already, but after a first dismissal, the file was taken over by the court of Tours, where a magistrate decided the indictment. Jean-Yves Ossonce was Music Director of the Opera in Tours from 1999 to 2016.
The annual Kersjesprijs will be awarded to the Navarra String Quartet on 2 December 2017 in the Royal Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. The prize, worth €50,000, is awarded yearly to outstanding young musicians. Sixteen-year-old Noa Wildschut will receive the violin scholarship (€15,000). Sehr gut verstanden hat Boris Giltburg, dass Rachmaninovs Musik von der Opposition von Melancholie und quirliger Virtuosität lebt. Das zeigt sein Spiel beeindruckend. Dass es letztlich zu einem durchgehend spannungsvollen Spiel nicht reicht, liegt wohl vor allem am Dirigenten, der nicht besonders inspiriert begleitet und von Rachmaninovs Farbpalette nur sehr beschränkt Gebrauch macht. American conductor Dennis Russell Davies, 73, will take over the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra from the next concert season. The musician said: « »I am proud of the fact that the Philharmonia Brno has offered me to become her artistic leader and chief conductor. I was very happy to accept this offer. The conductor comes from Bruckner’s orchestra in Linz, Austria, where he was music director for fifteen years.
Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, 82, has been announced as one of three winners of the 2017 Ratzinger Prize awarded by the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation. The Ratzinger Prize was established in 2010 and first awarded in 2011. In celebration of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra’s 60th anniversary, the GSO launched its opening program of the 2017/18 season last Sunday (24/9) with the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Symphony No. 6 (Chinese Poems), featuring baritone Chen-Ye Yuan. This Symphony No. 6, co-commissioned by the GSO and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, is inspired by Chinese literary culture, with German translations of Tang Dynasty poetry. The sold-out season-opening celebratory program at the Xinghai Concert Hall was led by GSO Music Director Long Yu.
