The Cliburn Foundation released the following statement by pianist Vadym Kholodenko about the deaths of his young daughters on Thursday, while his wife, Sofya Tsygankova, is still held for mental evaluation: “Being in a great grief I would like to address this message to everyone who thinks about my family. The loss of my children will be with me forever. But I would like to say that I feel the support of the Fort Worth community and all people who are sending me messages all over the world. (…) Wherever I go after this tragedy my heart will stay with the people here of Fort Worth and my daughters will rest in this soil.”

The ‘Grand Prix Lycéen des Compositeurs 2016’ (17th edition) was awarded to Karol Beffa for his Concerto for Viola and Strings. The competition was run by over 1000 students and teachers representing 35 French high schools. Other Composers in competition were Régis Campo, Bechara El-Khoury, Laurent Lefrançois, Jacques Lenot and Christian Zanési.
The Star-Telegram in Fort Worth is reporting about the death of two children and the stabbing of their mother. The family is the one of Cliburn gold medalist Vadym Kholodenko, who lives separated from his wife and has filed for divorce. Kholodenko is scheduled to play this weekend with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. An update will follow as soon as more details are known.
