Diese CD hatte ich fast abrupt aus dem Player genommen, weil Johann Blanchard den ersten Satz der Sonate von Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944) spielt, als stamme die Musik von Liszt. Im Andante versöhnte mich der Pianist mit schönen Stimmungen und einem lyrischen Gesang, der der französischen Komponistin gut zu Gesicht steht. Read More →

The opera house in Limoges

The Opera of Limoges/France will not renew the contracts of its ballet at the end of the current season. Eight dancers lose their jobs. The management says the money they will save will be used for the orchestra and the choir.

Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, an avant-garde company based in New York, is shut down. This was reported by the Observer. Created and financed by Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie, the company was active for 12 years. 16 dancers and some 10 administrative staff lose their jobs.

Due to a strike of parts of its employees, Radio France canceled the concert of its Philharmonic Orchestra yesterday evening at the new Philharmonie in Paris. However, the musicians were not on strike and neither was their conductor Myung-Whun Chung. They officially declared that the concert would take place. Yet, the management of the Philharmonie was closer to the management of Radio France than to the musicians and kept the doors of the building closed. But the Orchestra was not to be backed off. After the 100.000 Euro renovation of his office, Matthieu Gallet, CEO of the French Radio, has overtly spoken about possible ways to save money with both of the Radio’s orchestras. He currently sees three options: The so called National Orchestra (the one having Gatti as Music Director) could be brought into an autonomous structure, with part of its financing being assured by the Radio. He is also thinking about a merger of both orchestra, Gatti’s ‘National’ and Chung’s ‘Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France’ or of reducing the number of musicians.

Für die Eröffnungsvorstellung mit ‘Turandot’ am 1. Mai hatten die Scala-Mitarbeiter mit Streik gedroht. Sie wollten am Tag der Arbeit keinesfalls arbeiten. Nun meldet die italienische Presse, mit fettem Bonus habe man ihr Wohlwollen erkauft. Zudem sollen sie nun am Vortag der Expo-Eröffnung noch ein Oper Air-Konzert spielen, für das nochmals mehr Gehalt gezahlt wird. Die Rede geht von 600% Zuschuss, was ein Extra von zwischen 500 und 1200 Euro pro Diensttuendem bringen soll.

While Gustavo Dudamel (34) is on tour with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Asia, the coinductor’s wife, Eloisa Maturen, has filed for divorce in Los Angeles. The two have been married for nine years and have a three-year-old son.
