This CD begins not simply with one supplementary recording of Grieg’s Holberg Suite. What we hear is a very rich and moving performance of this popular piece. The sheer abundance of colors and of rhythmic patterns leads to an incredibly beautiful and rhetoric music, played with deep feelings for the piece and it’s composer who expressed in this Suite his bottomless love for his country. David Finckel, the outgoing cellist of the Emerson Quartet and his wife, the pianist Wu Han, are renewing their contract as co-artistic directors of the Chamber Music Society of New York’s Lincoln Center through 2019. The couple have held the post since 2004.

Der 36-jährige deutsch-ghanische Dirigent Kevin John Edusei wird ab der Saison 2014/ 15 neuer Chefdirigent der Münchner Symphoniker. Zuvor wird er in der Saison 2013/ 14 einige Male als Gastdirigent zu erleben sein. Kevin John Edusei ist Nachfolger von Georg Schmöhe (74), der das Orchester fast sieben Jahre leitete und im März sein Amt aufgab. Edusei machte 2008 als Sieger im ‘Dimitri Mitropoulos Dirigentenwettbewerb’ international auf sich aufmerksam. Er war auch einer der drei Gewinner des von Pierre Boulez und Peter Eötvös initiierten Dirigentenwett-bewerbs  beim Lucerne Festival 2007.

Der deutsche Pianist und Dirigent Justus Frantz wird als Nachfolger des israelischen Dirigenten Doron Salomon Chefdirigent der Israel Sinfonietta Beersheva. Frantz, dessen Karriere sich  normalerweise auf Konzerte mit der von ihm gegründeten Philharmonie der Nationen und Klavierabende in kleineren Ortschaften reduziert, hatte das Orchester im vergangenen Jahr erfolgreich dirigiert.

Parmi les 63 candidats accrédités, 24  pianistes ont été sélectionnés pour la demi-finale du Concours Reine Elisabeth consacré cette année au piano. La demi-finale débute aujourd’hui et se terminera par la proclamation des 12 finalistes. Parmi les 24 se trouvent 5 Coréens, 4 Chinois, 3 Russes, 2 Américains, 2 Belges, 1 Français, 1 Finlandais, 1 Ukrainien, 1 Israélien, 1 Australien, 1 Japonais et deux candidats à la double nationalité (Grande Bretagne-Pologne et Russie-Corée).

The winner of the 2013 ‘Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award’, awarded today for the fourth time, is Ben Gernon, a young conductor from Great Britain. The 23 years old musician convinced the international jury chaired by Ingo Metzmacher during the Award Concert Weekend at the Felsenreitschule by performing works by Peter Maxwell Davies, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven with the Camerata Salzburg. Schumann Quartett

Organisé en alternance avec les concours de Londres et celui de Reggio Emilia, le Concours International de Quatuor à Cordes de Bordeaux a été remporté hier, 11 mai, par le Quatuor Schumann. Ce quatuor formé par les frères Erik, Ken (violon) et Mark Schumann (violoncelle) ainsi que par l’altiste estonienne  Liisa Randalu a été créé en 2007. La jeune formation vient de publier son premier CD chez Ars Produktion (Beethoven, Bartok, Brahms). ‘Ellipse’, un quatuor composé de quatre musiciens de l’Orchestre National de France, sa reçu le 2e Prix.
