Harmonie Universelle präsentiert Ersteinspielungen von drei Werken des deutsch-niederländischen Komponisten und Virtuosen Johann Wilhelm Wilms (1772-1847). Puccinis Messe ist ein Werk, mit dem es so manche Dirigenten schwer tun: sie machen entweder Oper daraus oder eine heroisch-brillante Vokalmusik, die dem Werk nicht gerecht wird und es unförmig werden lässt. Gustavo Gimeno dirigiert das Werk mit durchaus passender Schlichtheit, sehr geschmeidig, mit warmem, farbigem Klang, der alles Grelle vermeidet und den Lyrismus auskostet, ohne die Messe opernhaft werden zu lassen.
