Claire Désert beginnt mit einer sehr persönlichen, tief empfundenen und leidenschaftlichen Interpretation des ersten Satzes der 1905er-Sonate von Leos Janacek. Die Sonate – die nur dank ihrer ersten Interpretin, Ludmila Toutchkova, erhalten geblieben ist, die die beiden Anfangssätze kopiert hatte, ehe der Komponist das Manuskript vernichtete – ist von einer wahren Begebenheit inspiriert, dem Tod eines Arbeiters bei einer Demonstration.
