Um eine komplette CD mit der Musik Shostakovichs für die Bratsche einspielen zu können, muss man sozusagen etwas arrangieren, da er nur eine Bratschensonate geschrieben hat. Diese ist übrigens sein letztes vollendetes Werk, dessen Uraufführung er nicht mehr erlebt hat. Veit Benedikt Hertenstein hat deshalb selbst die Cellosonate für sein Instrument der Mittelstimme der Streicher eingerichtet. Die Cellosonate hat Shostakovich 40 Jahre früher geschrieben, in den Zeiten der sozialistischen Kämpfe gegen die Kultur. To cope with its financial crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Royal Opera House in London has sold a painting by David Hockney for 14.2 million euros. The painting auctioned at Christie’s depicts David Webster, former director of the opera house from 1945 to 1970, and dates from 1971.

Frau Weiß, Herr Schwabe, wie kamen Sie auf die Idee, ein ganzes Album (Pizzicato-Rezension) mit ungarischer Musik aufzunehmen?
H.W: Wir spielen das Duo von Zoltán Kodály schon seit längerer Zeit im Konzert und haben uns mit einigen Abständen immer wieder mit dem Stück befasst. Dabei hat uns jedes Mal erneut die Arbeit an Kodálys sehr genau bezeichneter Musik sehr viel Freude und wiederkehrende Neugierde bereitet. Hellen Weiß: We have been playing the Kodály duo in concerts for a while now and therefore worked on the piece on and off for a period of time. Milan’s La Scala has decided to cancel ten events scheduled from now until 3 December due to the evolution of the Coronavirus epidemic. These are just some of the shows on the programme, including the four performances of Cinderella for children scheduled for November, three concerts conducted by Giovanni Antonini and two recitals with Sabine Devieilhe and Simon Keenlyside.
