Luigi Rossi (1598-1653) stand im Dienst von drei berühmten italienischen Herrscherfamilien, den Borghese, den Barberini und den Medici, sowie des französischen Königs Louis XIV. The New York Philharmonic and the Lincoln Center announced a complete renovation of Geffen Hall (ex-Avery Fischer Hall) at a cost of $550 million. In the hall the acoustics will be improved and around 67% of its third tier will be eliminated. The stage will come forward by nearly one meter to create seven rows of seating in the back of the orchestra. In total, the current seating capacity of 2.738 will be reduced by 500. Read More →
Two of the opera singers who blamed Placido Domingo for sexual misconduct have reacted to the Spaniard’s recent interviews in which he claimed he has always behaved like a gentleman and never acted improperly with women. According to the news agency AP which published the initial complaints, two of the more than 20 women who accused Domingo, Angela Turner Wilson and Patricia Wulf, issued a statement Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, saying they found Domingo’s comments and his « continued failure to take responsibility for wrongdoing » to be disappointing and deeply disturbing. Die englische Pianistin und Komponistin Dora Bright (1862-1951) komponierte angeblich recht viel, auch fürs Musiktheater und das Ballett, aber viele ihrer Kompositionen sind verschollen. Bright, zu der Liszt sagte « Mademoiselle, vous jouez à merveille », komponierte ihr Klavierkonzert 1891. Es ist ein romantisches Werk mit vielen originellen Ideen, sehr angenehm zu hören. Samantha Ward spielt es brillant und stimmungsvoll, vorzüglich begleitet vom Orchester aus Liverpool unter Charles Peebles. Für seine erste Einspielung hat es sechs Quartette vom Vater aller Quartette, Joseph Haydn, ausgewählt, die von einem der Sonnenquartette bis zum zweiten aus dem Opus 77 eine große Bandbreite abdecken.
