Die Stimme von Andreas Scholl wird immer androgyner und verliert auch mit zunehmendem Alter – Scholl ist jetzt 53 – nichts an Reinheit und vokaler Qualität. Ob in Brouwers English Folksongs oder in den Bach-Arien, seine klare Countertenor-Stimme hat für die barocken wie auch für die romantischen Stücke eine gute Mischung von Kühle und Raffinement. Affektgeladenes Singen ist nicht sein Ding, und bei ihm läuft nichts Gefahr, ins Überzogene und Manierierte abzugleiten. Scholls minutiöse Gestaltung ist stets Mittel zur Textdarstellung. Eine gute Kontrolle der Stimmführung und eine solide Atemtechnik ermöglichen ihm feinstes Interpretieren
Edin Karamazov, sein langjähriger Partner an der Laute, ist ein konstruktiv mitdenkender Begleiter und überzeugt nicht weniger in den von ihm selber arrangierten Werken von Bach und Brouwer.
Andreas Scholl’s voice is becoming increasingly androgynous and loses nothing of its purity and vocal quality with age – Scholl is now 53. Whether in Brouwer’s English Folksongs or in the Bach arias, his clear countertenor voice has a good mix of coolness and refinement for both the Baroque and Romantic pieces. Affect-laden singing is not his thing, and with him nothing runs the risk of slipping into the overblown and mannered. Scholl’s meticulous shaping is always a means to the text. A good control of the voice leading and a solid breathing technique enable him to interpret finely. Edin Karamazov, his long-time partner on the lute, is a constructively thinking accompanist and is no less convincing in the works by Bach and Brouwer which he arranged himself.
