Now we know also about the rest of the ranking at the 11th Canadian Banff Competition for String Quartets. As reported, the Dover Quartet (USA won the competition, taking also the Haydn Prize (R.S. Williams and Sons prize), the Schubert Prize (Székaly Prize) and the Prize for best performance of the Canadian co-commissioned work by Vivian Fung. Second Prize went to the French ‘Quatuor Cavatine’. The members of this quartet are violonists Guillaume Chilemme and Matthieu Handtschoewercker (a member of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra), viola player Marie Chilemme and cellist Bruno Delepelaire.
Third Prize was given to the Navarra Quartet (UK/Ireland/The Netherlands), an ensemble which won the Young Artist Award at MIDEM in 2008, having been selected by a Jury in which Pizzicato was a member (the MIDEM Classical Awards Jury became later the ICMA Jury, International Classical Music Awards).
