The Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya has announced the appointment of Ludovic Morlot as Principal Conductor from September 2022 for four seasons. He succeeds to Kashushi Ono.
Ludovic Morlot, born in Lyon, France (1973), is currently Conductor Emeritus of the Seattle Symphony, an honorary title bestowed on him for the extraordinary work he has done during his eight years as the orchestra’s Principal Conductor.
In addition, since 2019, Ludovic has been an Associate Artist of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he has maintained a close relationship for many years.
In the operatic field, Ludovic Morlot was Music Director of La Monnaie, Brussels, for three years (2012-2014).
Trained as a violinist, Morlot studied conducting in the USA then continued his training in London, at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Music in Seattle and a Visiting Artist at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. In 2014 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London, in recognition of his important contribution to music.
