A guest in a broadcast of French radio Europe 1, conductor Daniel Barenboim heavily criticised the Israeli government. He said: « Even if we think that every Jew in the world has the right to live in Israel, it cannot be realized without the others. The land was not a desert, the Palestinians were there. (…) And it is unacceptable that there is a government in Israel which is completely deaf, which is interested not at all in the opinion of others and continues to build colonies, making it impossible to have a normal Palestinian State ».
Original French according to Europe 1: « Le gouvernement israélien ne s’intéresse pas du tout à l’opinion des autres ». « L’argument ‘eux (les Palestiniens, ndlr), ils ne veulent pas’, je ne l’accepte pas. Même si on pense que tout juif dans le monde a le droit de vivre en Israël, cela ne peut pas se faire sans les autres. Ce n’était pas un désert, les Palestiniens étaient là. Je trouve que c’est inacceptable », continue-t-il. « Et c’est inacceptable qu’il y ait un gouvernement en Israël qui soit complètement sourd, qui ne s’intéresse pas du tout à l’opinion des autres et continue à construire des colonies, rendant impossible un État palestinien normal ».
