Es ist nicht der ständige echte Dialog zwischen dem Pianisten und der Geigerin, der diese Beethoven-Interpretationen so außergewöhnlich macht: Nein, es ist eine Inspiration und eine Phantasie, die die Musik mitreißend macht und zugleich die Entwicklung dieser Sonaten von den Nummern 1 bis 10 sehr deutlich werden lässt.
Mit vielen Nuancen und Farben, einer prononcierten Agogik und einer ständig kommunikativen Gestik kommt eine Rhetorik zustande, die den Hörer aufmerksam und wach zuhören lässt. Gewiss, wir sind weit entfernt von der Dramatik des Duos Argerich-Kremer oder der Extravaganz von Say und Kopatchinskaja, aber die überlegene Souveränität, mit der hier Musik gemacht wird, ist mehr als nur gefällig. Clara-Jumi Kang spielt sehr lyrisch, sehr elegant und mit ungemein flüssigem Ton. Beethovens Geige muss ja auch nicht immer ächzen und scharf klingen. Und auch Sunwook Kims Spiel zeichnet sich durch viel klangliche Wärme aus, bleibt dabei aber immer klar artikuliert, und die Gemeinsamkeit des Dialogs ist frappierend. Es erstaunt daher auch nicht, dass die langsamen Sätze mit ihrem ganzen emotionalen Gehalt zu den Höhepunkten dieser Gesamteinspielung zählen.
It is not the constant genuine dialogue between the pianist and the violinist that makes these Beethoven interpretations so exceptional: No, it is an inspiration and an imagination that make the music stirring and at the same time let the development of these sonatas from numbers 1 to 10 become very clear.
With many nuances and colors, a distinct agogic and a constantly communicative gesture, a rhetoric comes about that makes the listener listen attentively and awake. Certainly, we are far from the drama of the Argerich-Kremer duo or the flamboyance of Say and Kopatchinskaja, but the superior aplomb with which music is made here is more than pleasing. Clara-Jumi Kang plays very lyrically, very elegantly, and with immensely fluid tone. Beethoven’s violin doesn’t always have to groan and sound sharp, after all. And Sunwook Kim’s playing is also characterized by a lot of warmth, yet always remains clearly articulated, and the unity of the dialogue is striking. It is therefore not surprising that the slow movements with all their emotional content are among the highlights of this complete recording.
