Die brasilianische Pianistin Clara Sverner ist 87 Jahre alt. Sie hat bereits früher viele Schallplatten eingespielt und präsentiert jetzt ein Brahms- und Fauré-Programm, das sich durch viel Melancholie und Nostalgie auszeichnet.
Gewiss, zunächst hört man der Pianistin berührt und ehrfürchtig zu, allein schon wegen ihres Alters. Aber dann bewegt uns die musikalische Aussage per se durch das Spiel der Pianistin. Sie hat hier keine Gelegenheit, virtuos zu spielen, sie betont die sanftere, romantischere Seite der Musik, aber diese wird nie sentimental oder gar traurig. Zärtlichkeit und Zurückhaltung passen wunderbar zu diese intimen Seiten von Brahms und Fauré.
Es ist eine persönliche und warme Interpretation, mit einem breit angelegten Gesang, der ein Kontinuum entstehen lässt, das die Musik zusammenhält. Musterbeispiel für dieses Spiel von Clara Sverner ist das sublime, traumhaft gespielte 4. Nocturne von Fauré aus dem Opus 38.

Certainly, at first we listen to the pianist with emotion and reverence, if only because of her age. But then we are moved by the musical statement itself through the pianist’s playing. She does not have the opportunity to play virtuosically, and she emphasizes the softer, more romantic side of the music, but it never becomes sentimental or even sad. Tenderness and restraint suit these intimate sides of Brahms and Fauré beautifully.
It is a personal and warm interpretation, with a wide lyrical range that creates a continuum and holds the music together. A prime example of Clara Sverner’s playing is Fauré’s sublime, dreamlike 4th Nocturne from Opus 38.
