The Vancouver Symphony honours its long-time Music Director Bramwell Tovey, 64, with a series of events over the next few weeks. Among Tovey’s final performances there is the premiere of Tovey’s Shalimar Variations for Piano and Orchestra, a concert version of Britten’s Peter Grimes, and the final regular concert of Tovey’s tenure, Mahler’s Second Symphony.
Tovey became music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in September 2000. He is director of orchestral activities at the Boston University School of Music and he is Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra.
