British conductor Bramwell Tovey, 65, joins the East Providence based Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School as Artistic Advisor, effective immediately.
Tovey, 65, recently stepped down as head of Canada’s Vancouver Symphony, where he was music director for the past 18 years. Last year, Tovey joined the faculty of the Boston University School of Music as Director of Orchestral and Conducting Studies, bringing him to New England and making this new appointment possible. Tovey currently lives in Fenway Park, Boston. He is also principal conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra in England.
Tovey succeeds Larry Rachleff, who led the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra for more than two decades.
