Due to a very successful fundraising campaign and increased ticket revenues the Lyric Opera of Chicago will break even for the 2012-13 season. The season included more performances than the previous one and 28 % more tickets to sell. Overall, the house sold approximately 80 % and in the regular season 83 % of the available seats, down from 88 percent one year ago. One major financial success was the musical ‘Oklahoma!’ For the upcoming season, Lyric Opera is planning operating expenses of $67.7 million, with a fundraising goal of $23.6 million. The company will again produce a musical next season, ‘The Sound of Music’.
