The Chinese-Canadian pianist Bruce Xiaoyu Liu, 24, won First Prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Second Prize ex aequo went to Alexander Gadjiev, Italy/Slovenia, and Kyohei Sorita, Japan. The Third Prize was awarded to Martin Garcia Garcia from Spain.
The Polish Radio Prize for the best performance of mazurkas was won by Jakub Kuszlik, Poland, the Warsaw Philharmonic Prize for the best performance of a concerto by Martin Garcia Garcia and the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the best performance of a sonata by Alexander Gadjiev.
Born in Paris in 1997, Bruce Xiaoyu Liu graduated from the Montreal Conservatoire, and currently studies with Dang Thai Son. He is a laureate of the Sendai International Piano Competition, Grand Prix Animato in Paris, the Interlaken Classics in Bern, Viseu International Piano Competition, and finalist prize at the prestigious Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel-Aviv.
