The Cadaqués Orchestra in Spain has announced a temporary closure, « a period of rest and reflection », as the news release says. This will happen after a concert tour this December.
According to Spanish media outlets, the financial situation of the orchestra is not brilliant and faces rising cost, which is hard to be supported.
Since its foundation in 1988, the orchestra has worked with great conductors, like Neville Marriner, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Philippe Entremont, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Christian Zacharias, Vasily Petrenko, Pablo González, Alberto Zedda, Gianandrea Noseda (since 1997, principal conductor) and Jaime Martín (since 2011, principal conductor).
The closure means that also the Cadaqués International Conducting Competition is put on hold.
