In the small town of Luslawice in South Poland, 100 kilometres east from Krakow, composer Krzysztof Penderecki initiated a musical centre for young musicians, built on his land, not far from his own manor and his superb Arboretum. The Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music, as it is called, is today an important venue hosting master-classes, workshops and concerts for and with young musicians, bearing at the same time a huge cultural influence on the entire region, Remy Franck reports.

Chouchane, your family roots go back to Armenia. What does this mean for your music-making?
For sure, my roots have an influence on my playing and even in general on my life. My father is a well-known specialist of this music and his approach certainly had and has an influence on my own music-making. I was born in France, I have grown up in France, so I feel myself as being French, but I have several times been in Armenia and above all I have heard this music at home. Der von den 'International Classical Music Awards' (ICMA) mit dem 'Discovery Award' 2017 ausgezeichnete Pianist Robert Neumann (*2001) ist in einer Musikerfamilie dreisprachig aufgewachsen. Mit elf Jahren kam er als Jungstudent in die Klasse von Prof. Elza Kolodin in die Musikhochschule Freiburg, mit fünfzehn wurde er regulärer Student. Weitere Studien führen ihn regelmäßig an die Internationale Musikakademie im Fürstentum Liechtenstein, wo er als Stipendiat vom intensiven Unterricht profitiert und an den Aktivitäten der Akademie teilnimmt. Er hat bereits eine vielfältige Konzertaktivität. Remy Franck und Andrea Meuli haben ihn befragt.

He is especially famous in Wagner-roles, but his repertoire is large, reaching even to Finnish tangos. Robert, what was the starting point for your business?

Als Solist konzertiert Geiger Michael Barenboim regelmäßig an der Seite renommierter Orchester (Wiener Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Münchner Philharmoniker, Mahler Chamber Orchestra) und Dirigenten (Pierre Boulez, Mariss Jansons, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, David Zinman). Seit 2003 fungiert er als Konzertmeister des 'West-Eastern Divan Orchestra’.
