Finnish violinist Eriikka Maalismaa has died from cancer at the age of 44. She served as a concertmaster and section principal in orchestras such as the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Australian Chamber Orchestra, and BBC Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of the chamber orchestra Avanti!, as well as Avanti! String Quartet. With pianist Emil Holmström and cellist Markus Hohti, she founded the Ristiveto Festival, which focuses on music and art of the late 19th and early 20th century.
