The London Philharmonic Orchestra today announced that its long-standing partnership with Vladimir Jurowski, Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor, will continue until at least 2018. He is Principal Conductor since 2007. He took on the additional role as Artistic Advisor in 2012. Jurowski is also Principal Artist at the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Artistic Director of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra).

The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DBC) has announced that it will shut down the Danish National Chamber Orchestra (DNCO) on January 1st 2015 due to budget cuts. The DNCO employs 42 musicians as well as the artistic team working with them. The International Federation of Musicians in Paris now asked musicians and music lovers to support the orchestra by signing the petition ‘Save the Danish National Chamber Orchestra’. Die Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, die sich derzeit auf einer Asien-Tournee befindet, gab ein bejubeltes Konzert mit Beethovens Neunter Symphonie unter Chefdirigent Karel Mark Chichon vor 8.000 Zuhörern in der Myung-Seong Kirche in Seoul. The President of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Stanley Romanstein, has resigned, mentioning that his leadership would be an “impediment” to reaching a new labor agreement with the symphony’s locked out musicians. Die Gewerkschaft der Musiker des ‘Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France’ haben für den 3. Oktober einen Streik angekündigt. Das Orchester hat für diesen Tag ein Konzert in der Pariser Salle Pleyel programmiert. Die Komponistin Milica Djordjevic (30) erhält den mit 20 000 Euro dotierten Belmont-Preis 2015 für zeitgenössische Musik, der von der Forberg-Schneider-Stiftung vergeben wird. The proposed federal mediation in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra labor dispute has teething troubles: while the administration is ready to resume collective bargaining agreement discussions using federal mediator Allison Beck, the ASO Players’ Association is waiting for a first individual meeting with the mediator. In a press release the Players’ Association says: “…we accepted the suggestion to speak with Ms. Allison Beck, the Acting Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, and were told that FMCS officials would be contacting us accordingly, which has not happened yet. … »

On German radio station BR-Klassik violinist Gidon Kremer has now his own monthly program. ‘Kremerspiegel’ – is the name of the new series in which the Latvian-born violinist can be experienced once a month discussing selected musical subjects and also presenting music for one hour alternating with the hosts Bernhard Neuhoff and Meret Forster. The first episode on September 25th was about « How it all started. Splinters of a musical childhood ».
