Nach dem Rücktritt von André Schmitz wird der Pop-Musikproduzent Tim Renner neuer Kulturstaatssekretär in Berlin. Das teilte der Regierende Bürgermeister Klaus Wowereit mit. Derzeit leitet Renner als Geschäftsführer das Musiklabel ‘Motor Entertainment’. Er war zuvor u.a. Chef der Deutschland-Sparte von ‘Universal Music’.

‘Yorkshire Post’ reports that the British Concert pianist and piano teacher John Briggs (65) has been condemned to eight years in prison after a jury at Bradford Crown Court found him guilty of sex abuse charges against two of his former music students and three former members of the Keighley Sea Cadets. The abuses go back to period between the late 1960s and 1993. During trial the Court was told that one of the complainants had reported his abuse to the police 20 years ago, but at the time Briggs was not prosecuted. The boys, at that time, were aged between 10 and 15.

Das zeigt eine von der ‘Los Angeles Times’ veröffentlichte Gehaltsliste mit direkt unmoralischen Zahlen. Die Rede ist von amerikanischen Dollars und die Zahlen stammen aus den Steuerberichten für das Jahr 2011. Die Gehälter sind also heute zweifellos höher. When the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, under the direction of conductor Yuri Temirkanov, will be performing in San Francisco on March 3, Gays Without Borders, LGBT & Feminist Activists will organize a solidarity vigil outside Davies Hall where the concert will take place. This will be another protest against homophobic laws in Russia and a solidarity manifest towards the Pussy Riot musicians. The Music Department in Dublin’s Trinity College recently welcomed the Luxembourgish ensemble Lucilin, Trinity’s ensemble-in-residence for 2013/14, back for their second visit of this academic year. Luclin gave a public concert featuring soloist pieces and contemporary repertoire in the packed Kevin Barry Room of the National Concert Hall with the participation of Tomoko Kiba on violin, Danielle Hennicot on viola, Christophe Beau on violoncello and Marcel Lallemang on clarinet.
